Saint-Géry, Lot

Saint- Gery is a commune with 451 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Lot in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs administratively to the Arrondissement of Cahors and the Canton of Saint- Gery, whose capital it is.

Geography

The community is located about ten kilometers east of Cahors, in the Regional Natural Park of Causses du Quercy. Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Gery are:

  • Cabrerets in the north and northeast,
  • Bouziès in the east,
  • Saint- Cirq- Lapopie and Esclauzels in the southeast,
  • Arcambal in the south, as well as
  • Verse to the west and northwest.

Saint- Gery is located on the right bank of the river Lot, the further north located limestone plateau of the Causse de Gramat the like, further to the south -lying formation Causse de Limogne separates here.

Transport links

The densely populated municipality is found almost exclusively in the valley. The most important road link is therefore the department D662 road that leads from Cajarc to Cahors and on the right bank it follows the river, which here runs into many tight turns. It is therefore no through road, but serves mainly local traffic and tourism. Also a railway line runs through the municipality, on the upside of the tourist Quercy Rail.

In the steep rock faces of the Lot Valley there are caves that were inhabited in prehistoric times of cavemen. They are registered as a monument historique.
