Saint-Juéry, Tarn

Saint- Juéry ( Occitan: Saint- Jüri ) is a commune with 6758 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Tarn department in the Midi-Pyrénées region. Saint- Juéry is the most populous city in the Canton of Villefranche- d'Albigeois.

The name of the village derives from hl. Georg from.

Location

Saint- Juéry is located about 5.5 kilometers north-east of Albi on the southern bank of the river Tarn. On the other side of the river is the community Arthès, in the south the municipality Cunac, in the northeast of Saint- Grégoire and east Marsal.

Demographics

History

1160 the fortress Saint- Juéry -le-Haut was built. From this construction, however, is nothing more to see. In the 17th century the castle was razed.

  • The Musée du Saut du Tarn is located in a historic hydroelectric power plant ( an industrial monument).
