Saint-Julien-de-Jonzy

Saint -Julien -de- Jonzy is a commune in the French department of Saône- et- Loire of the Burgundy region. In the municipality of 300 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011).

Location

Saint -Julien -de- Jonzy lies at an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level. inst in the ancient cultural landscape of the brionnais. The place is located about 185 km ( driving distance ) southwest of Dijon and about 75 kilometers west of Mâcon. The remarkable place Charlieu is only seven miles south.

Demographics

In the first half of the 19th century, the city had at times over 1,200 inhabitants. As a result of the phylloxera crisis in the wine and the mechanization of agriculture has declined, the population since the second half of the 19th century, continuously to the present state back.

Economy

The hilly surroundings of Saint -Julien has always been dominated by agriculture, where today the cattle ( Charolais cattle ) plays a major role. The place itself acted as a craft, trade and service center for the region.

History

In the Middle Ages the town was under the jurisdiction of times the landlord ( seigneurs ) of Vichy Chamron and the barons of Semur. In 1860, the two formerly separate parishes or places of Saint -Julien -de- Cray and Jonzy were merged into one municipality.

Attractions

  • Tower and portal of the Romanesque, originally dating from the 12th century, but almost completely re- built in the 19th century parish church of Saint -Julien were found already in 1910 as a monument historique a historical monument.
