Ligny-en-Brionnais

Ligny -en- brionnais is a commune in the French department of Saône- et- Loire of the Burgundy region. In the municipality of 353 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011).

Location

Ligny -en- brionnais is located about two kilometers from the river Arconce located at an altitude of about 375 meters above sea level. inst in the ancient cultural landscape of the brionnais. The place is located about 30 km ( driving distance ) south of Paray -le- Monial and about 31 kilometers north-east of Roanne. The places worth seeing Semur -en- brionnais, Iguerande, Marcigny, Saint -Julien -de- Jonzy and Charlieu are within about 10-15 kilometers.

Demographics

In the 19th century the place had at times over 800 inhabitants. The phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture ensured since a significant population decline.

Economy

The hilly region of Ligny -en- brionnais has always been dominated by agriculture, which until the 19th century, viticulture was also operated. Meanwhile, the cattle ( Charolais cattle ) plays a major role. The place itself functioned until the early 20th century as a craft, trade and service center for several hamlets and isolated farmsteads in the area.

History

In 1248 gave King Louis IX. the basic rule ( seigniory ) about Ligny -Saint -Martin in gratitude for the support of the 6th crusade to his companion Damas de Vichy. Until the French Revolution the place remained in family hands.

Attractions

  • The nave of the original Romanesque parish church of Saint -Philippe -et -Saint -Jacques, together with its unadorned western facade and the central tower were 19th century completely renewed; only the internal Vierungsbereich with his tromp supported dome and the apse remained. He provides a balanced view.

Capital

  • The partially preserved buildings of the former Benedictine Abbey of Saint - Rigaud are privately owned and are not open to visitors.
  • From the Château de Chamron, the former castle of the lords family remained nothing.
