Saint-Paul-de-Fourques

Saint -Paul -de- Fourques is a commune with 291 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Canton de Brionne.

Geography

Saint -Paul -de- Fourques located in Roumois, 56 kilometers southwest of Le Havre. Neighboring municipalities of Saint -Paul -de- Fourques are Bosrobert in the West, Saint- Eloi -de- Fourques in the north, Le Gros -Theil in Nprdosten, La Neuville -du -Bosc in the southeast and La Haye -de- Calleville in the south. The municipality covers 403 hectares, the average altitude is 114 meters above sea level, the Mairie stands at a height of 142 meters. The hamlet of Le Glatiney belongs to the municipality.

In Saint -Paul -de- Fourques there is a danger that Marnières, old marl pits cause a landslide. The 1.5 to 2 meters wide and several meters deep holes can occur, for example after heavy rain, there are openings in the access shafts whose rubble filling was swept into the side passages. History

Originally Fourques was a big village which was divided into two places, Saint- Eloi -de- Fourques and Saint -Paul -de- Fourques. Orderic Vitalis (1075-1142) mentioned in his Historia Ecclesiastica the main town Fourques as Furcas ( fork, pitchfork bifurcation ). At the founding of the Abbey Le Bec in the 11th century the family Croc of the Abbey gave everything they had in Fourques. At the beginning of the 13th century gave Guillaume de Fourques the Abbey Le Bec lands and money. The parish church of Saint -Paul also belonged to the Abbey of Le Bec. On August 10, 1253 handed Roger, pastor of Saint -Paul -de- Fourques, the parish of Eudes Rigaud ( 1200-1275 to ), who was then at the Abbey of Le Bec. Attractions

The Romanesque church of Saint -Paul dates from the 12th century and is dedicated to Paul of Tarsus. It was changed only slightly over the centuries. In its interior, there are many memorial plaques.

The nearest railway station is at 7 km away cantonal capital of Brionne.
