Sainte-Reine (Savoie)

Sainte -Reine is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Sainte -Reine is located at 830 m above sea level. M., approximately 18 km east-northeast of the city of Chambéry (air line). The village is located in the northwest of the Savoie département, in the massif of the Wallows, in the broad valley of Ruisseau des Grands Prés at the western foot of the Dent d' Arclusaz.

The area of ​​14.62 km ² municipal area includes a strong section in relief of the massif of the Wallows. The central part is occupied by a broad valley floor ( about 1 km wide flat valley floor ), which is dehydrated to Chéran by the Ruisseau des Grands Prés to the north. History

Sainte -Reine, formerly written Sainte- Reyne, is named after the holy Regina. It belonged to the end of the Ancien Régime to the rule bauges.

Attractions

The village church of Sainte -Reine was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. In addition are the rectory, the school and the community center. In Epernay are a chapel and a former mansion.

Population

With 159 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Sainte -Reine is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Savoie. After the population declined sharply in the first half of the 20th century, it remained fairly constant in recent years.
