Salmo peristericus

Salmo peristericus is a species of fish in the salmon family (Salmonidae ), which is endemic in the region of Prespa in the border triangle of Macedonia, Albania and Greece.

Features

Salmo peristericus reaches a body length of up to 35 centimeters, with 72-75 % of standard length lie in front of the anal fin. The height of the body is 19-23 % of standard length. The gill cover and the upper third of the flanks have small black spots. Eye -shaped red spots can be found on the entire flanks. The gills Reuse has 16 to 18 spines.

Way of life

The species colonized watercourses in the vicinity of the lake. It is believed that they derived from an originally colonized the lake population that has migrated to spawn in the tributaries. The spawning season is in November.

Threat

Salmo peristericus is listed in the Red List of endangered species as endangered ( Endangered ). The main threat is considered the loss of habitat.
