Sam & Dave
Sam & Dave were an American soul duo. They were one of the first successful duo and are considered characteristic for the Soul of the 1960s, particularly the Memphis Soul.
Career
Samuel "Sam" David Moore ( born October 12, 1935 in Miami) and David "Dave" Prater ( born May 9, 1937 in Ocilla, Oregon, † April 9, 1988 in Sycamore, Georgia) began their Sangeskarrieren in gospel choirs. In King Hearts Club in Miami, they met for the first time and were there in 1961 for the first time together. The club manager became their manager. 1962 released their first album, Sam & Dave.
1965 joined the duo to Atlantic Records. For political reasons, but their albums were produced and recorded, which had a contract with Atlantic Records, Stax Records. Their first record there was Hold On, I'm Comin ' from 1966 Now it happened in quick succession. The title track and You Do not Know Like I Know were the beginning of a hit series, many of which reached the Top Ten. Especially their live performances, the duo owed his nickname Double Dynamite, which is also the name of one of their albums.
1968 ran out of the contract between Stax and Atlantic Records. However, since the duo was at Atlantic under contract, they could not be able to call on the help of Stax producer and songwriter Isaac Hayes and Dave Porter, nor to Booker T. & the MG's, which acted as the house band of Stax. The permanent label change and the fact that they did not produce more hits more, the relationship of the duo deteriorated such that it initially separated in 1970.
In the 1970s, Sam and Dave got together again and produced in 1978 a new album. With the success of the Blues Brothers film Sam & Dave came together again in 1980.
