Sam Kutesa

Sam Kutesa Kahamba ( born 1 February 1949) is a Ugandan politician.

Biography

After studying law, he was from 1973 to 2001 worked as a lawyer. Already during his studies he was involved in politics and stood with Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in opposition to the former dictator Idi Amin. In 1973, he joined the Front for National Salvation ( FRONASA ) of Museveni.

However, his real political career began in 1980 when he was elected Member of Parliament, where he represented the constituency of North Mbabara to 1985. He was subsequently 1985-1986 Attorney General to the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs in the government of Tito Okello.

After he had retired several years from political life, he was appointed in 2001 by President Museveni after his re-election as Minister of State for investment in the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry in the cabinet of Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi.

On 13 January 2005 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. In September 2005 he gave a speech to the 60th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
