Sameh Fahmi

Amin Sameh Samir Fahmy (often listed in the short form Sameh Fahmy; Arab سامح فهمي, Samih Fahmi DMG; born August 14, 1949 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian politician.

Life

Fahmy studied until 1973 at Cairo University Chemical Engineering. In 1973 he was set with his twin brother Hady at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation ( EGPC ). In November 1985, Amin Sameh Samir Fahmy was entrusted with the investment planning of EGPC. From November 1987 he studied projects for their economic feasibility. From January to December 1988, he studied land-use planning as a fellow with a scholarship at the Nasser Military Academy.

In 1997 he was deputy chairman of the Middle East Oil Refinery ( MIDOR ) and, from 1998, he led the planning department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, its deputy director, he was in 1999. Amin Sameh Samir Fahmy was from October 5, 1999 to 9 July 2004 at the Cabinet Abaid and July 9, 2004 to 29th January 2011 at the Cabinet Nazif Minister of Natural Resources. Under his aegis, the Egyptian natural gas deposits, also of RWE, for the Egyptian needs were exploited.

Fahmy kept his ministerial position in the first (still used by Mubarak ) Shafiq cabinet, but resigned in late February 2011 - in a reshuffle of the Cabinet Shafiq - from the government. He was first (briefly) replaced by Mahmoud Latif Amer, who had previously been head of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company ( EGAS ). However, Mahmoud Latif Amer kept the new ministerial post for only a short time. As early March 2011, the entire cabinet Shafiq resigned Essam Sharaf and on 3 March 2011 formed a new cabinet, he appointed Abdullah Ghorab as the new Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

After the fall of Hosni Mubarak Fahmy was indicted. On June 28, 2012, a court in Cairo sentenced him to fifteen years in prison. The criminal court considered it proven that he had wasted public funds of more than $ 714 million in connection with a gas contract with Israel.

Imputed company

The oil and gas company owned by the Egyptian state include Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation ( EGPC ), Ganoub El Wady Holding Petroleum Co. ( Ganope ), Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. ( Egas, founded in August 2001) and Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company ( ECHEM ). They employ about 75,000 people and are supervised by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Relationship

His father worked in the 1940s for Shell. His brother Hady leads since 2004, Misr Petroleum Company.
