Sami Jauhojärvi

Sami Olavi Jauhojärvi (born 5 May 1981 in Ylitornio ) is a Finnish cross-country skiers.

Career

Sami Jauhojärvi lives in Rovaniemi and belongs to Vuokatti Ski Team Kainuu. The student starts since the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Štrbské Pleso in international races. Was he there still seventh on 10 and 30 kilometers, he won the following year in Karpacz Szklarska Gold and Bronze 30 over 10 kilometers. In the sprint, he was also fourth. In this discipline, he then went on even at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti, finishing in 18th place. It also followed first inserts at the end of the season in the Cross Country World Cup. His first result was 57th in a 10 -kilometer race in Borlänge.

In the aftermath Jauhojärvi always alternating between the World Cup and unterklassigen events such as FIS and Continental Cup competitions. In January 2002 he was first run in a team sprint in Nove Mesto na Moravě together with Sami Pietila sixth in the top ten of the World Cup. With the second season he was Finnish in December 2002 in Kuusamo behind Finland's first World Cup season in second place. In Oberstdorf Jauhojärvi started in 2005 for the second time in a Nordic World Ski Championships and reached a best finish ranked eleventh in the pursuit. In November, the Finn reached fourth in a race over 15 kilometers Beitostølen the first time a one-digit placement in a single race in the World Cup. Only in a race over the same distance in December 2007, he was able to achieve a better ranking with the third.

2006 started Jauhojärvi at the Olympics from Turin via three routes and reached ninth place on 15 km the best result. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo were an eleventh place in the team sprint and a 13th place in the race over 50 kilometers the best results. The Cross Country World Cup 2006/ 07, he finished ninth in the overall standings.

The biggest success of his career was able to achieve at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec Jauhojärvi. Together with Ville Nousiainen, he secured the bronze medal in the team sprint. Two days later, he secured together with Matti Heikkinen, Teemu Kattilakoski and Ville Nousiainen the bronze medal in the relay.

In the Finnish Championships 2010 in Keuruu he secured the title in the sprint. A little later he was part of the squad at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. After Rank 12 in the sprint he reached the fifth rank with the Finnish relay 4 x 10 km. In individual over 50 km, it landed on rank 20 Back in the World Cup, he celebrated as tenth in Lahti once again a top result. In April, he won the FIS races from Vadsø.

In the 2010/11 season Jauhojärvi weak start, but was surprised on December 11, with fifth place in Davos. After he finished ninth achieved a top 10 ranking over 15km in Drammen, he was nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo. After fifth place in the individual and in the team sprint he missed fourth in the relay medals scarce. In the World Cup he scored until the end of the season after the World Cup no top rankings more. Also in the Finnish Championships 2011 in Kuopio, he remained in the sprint without a medal.

Also in the season 2011/ 12 started Jauhojärvi weak as 67 in Sjusjøen. Although he was able to achieve results in the World Cup points ranks a little later again, top results failed to materialize, however. The Tour de Ski 2011/2012 he finished stage after weak results at the end of 33rd place overall. Only in Otepaeae the Finn proved finally regained strength and ran on a good tenth place. Also in the Finnish Championships 2012, he was successful again and secured in Keuruu about 3.75 km in classic style again a title. Also in Imatra little later he won another national gold medal and won the sprint race.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme Jauhojärvi was again without a medal. With the season he was running in fifth just behind the medal winners to the finish. At the Tour de Ski 2013/2014 he ran at good stage successes, including sixth in Lenzerheide. In the end he was ranked 19 of the Tour standings.

At the Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi Jauhojärvi began weakly with Rank 33 in Skiathlon. Better was the individual race over 15 km, in which he finished in 17th. After finishing sixth in the relay itself Jauhovärvi secured together with Iivo Niskanen Olympic victory in the team sprint. In the criticism Jauhojärvi came because he hindered the erstwhile leader Tim Tscharnke when changing lanes and this crashed and therefore had no chance of winning.
