Samuel Purdy

Samuel Purdy (* 1819 in New York City; † February 17, 1882 in San Francisco, California ) was an American politician. Between 1852 and 1856 he was Deputy Governor of the State of California.

Career

Samuel Purdy came from a well-known New York family and was trained as an architect. Since 1849, he was in California. There he hit as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1851 he became the first mayor of the city of Stockton.

That same year, Purdy was elected to the side of John Bigler Vice Governor of the State of California. This post he held between 8 January 1852, and January 9, 1856. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he held various other government offices, including the post of a tax inspector. Later, he was entrusted with the supervision of the construction of the new City Hall of San Francisco. Here he is on February 17, 1882 and passed away.
