San Andrés de Machaca Municipality

The municipality of San Andrés de Machaca is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality of San Andrés de Machaca is one of seven Municipalities of the province Ingavi and is located in the southwestern part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the Republic of Peru, on the south by the province of José Manuel Pando, in the southeast of the province Pacajes, and on the northeast by the municipality of Jesús de Machaca.

The municipality has 94 localities ( Localidades ), the central location of the municipality of San Andrés de Machaca is with 191 inhabitants in the south-eastern part of the county. The largest town in the municipality is corpa with 418 inhabitants. (2001)

Geography

The municipality of San Andrés de Machaca is located at an average altitude of 3900 m south of Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges, the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Central in the west to the east.

The mean annual temperature of the region lies at 8-9 ° C, the annual precipitation is 500-600 mm (see climate chart El Alto). The region has a pronounced diurnal climate, the monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 7 ° C in July and 11 ° C in December.
