The area lies to the east of the municipal area of Santa Clara County in San Antonio Valley. Viticulture has been created in the San Antonio Valley since 1771 tradition, as a first vineyard near a mission station. San Antonio Valley has a very warm climate and is protected by lying to the west of Santa Lucia Mountains. From the north coming to cool the area cooling sea breezes of Monterey Bay and the artificially dammed Lake San Antonio moderates the climate in addition. Comparable is the climate with the large Paso Robles AVA and the area is known for varieties which originate mainly from the Bordeaux and the Rhone in France.
