San Canzian d'Isonzo

The municipality of San Canzian d' Isonzo is located in north-eastern Italy, in the province of Gorizia in the Friuli- Venezia Giulia. It lies on the River Isonzo and has 6243 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) on an area of 33 km ². The municipality is situated approximately 30 km from Gorizia ( Gorizia dt ), the capital of the province and west of Trieste.

The municipality covers next to the capital, San Canzian d' Isonzo three other villages and hamlets ( Frazioni ): Begliano, Isola Morosini and Pieris. The neighboring municipalities are Fiumicello (UD), Grado, Ronchi dei Legionari, San Pier d' Isonzo, Staranzano and Turriaco.

History

The community was until the end of World War I part of the county of Gorizia and Gradisca, where she was placed under the jurisdiction Monfalcone, which in turn was part of the district Monfalcone.

In the municipality of San Canzian d' Isonzo former Italian football player and current coach Fabio Capello was born.
