San Saba is the capital and the county seat ( county seat ) of San Saba County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.
Geography
The city lies near the geographic center of Texas and on U.S. Highway 190, 140 km north- west of Austin and has a total area of 4.7 km ² without significant water surface.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 2,637 people in 1,008 households and 680 families. The population density was 565.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 78.54 % White, 0.64 % African American, 1.74 % Native American, 0.11 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 17.33 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.63% were of mixed descent, and 31.51 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,008 households, 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.2 % were married couples living together. 11.8% were single mothers and 32.5 % were non-families. 30.9 % of all households were single-person households, and 18.7 % had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3,12 people.
27.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.5 % from 18 to 24, 23.7% 25-44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.7 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 82.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 79.2 males.
