Sankt Gallenkirch

St. Gallen Kirch is a municipality in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg with 2181 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2013). The embossed on tourism municipality is located in the district of Bludenz and the Montafon is divided into the districts of St. Gallen Kirch, Gargellen and Gortipohl.

Geography

St.Gallenkirch is located in the south of Vorarlberg to 878 meters. Main river is the Ill. With a municipal area of ​​almost 128 km ² Sankt Gallen church is the church of the state with the second- largest surface area. 28.1 % of this area is forested, another 47.1% are part of the high alpine region.

Districts

Orographic left of the Ill, west of the church village, the district Galgenul lies with the base station of Valiserabahn.

History

The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814 belonged to the place, like all of Vorarlberg and Tyrol to Bavaria, then back to Austria. To Vorarlberg St. Gallen church since the founding of the country belongs in 1861.

1801 died more than 30 people, mostly children, of smallpox and in 1920 joined the Ruhr in St. Gallen Kirch.

During the Second World War, many men of the community were primarily as mountain infantry divisions in Norway and Yugoslavia. A human tragedy occurred in 1941, when two young Jewish women fleeing to Switzerland chose suicide. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

The proportion of foreigners at the end of 2002 was 9.9 percent.

Coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms, a canting arms, was established in 1966 after a design by the artist and Schrunser heraldist Konrad Honold. It shows St. Gallus ( with his attribute, bears), a church and the two crossed keys of the Montafon.

Policy

The municipal council has 21 members. After the local council elections of 2010, the ÖVP had 11, the SPÖ about 9, and the FPÖ have a representative in the municipal council. As mayor took over from Ewald Tschanhenz of the ÖVP Arno Salzmann of the SPÖ.

The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 3,321,145, the municipal expenditure at € 8,167,500. The debt was 2001 9.259.993 €.

Economy and infrastructure

At the site there were in 2003 68 companies in the industrial sector with 949 employees and 23 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 1,176. Tourism and tourism are important. In the tourism year 2007/2008 there were a total of 553 408 overnight stays, 387 354 166 054 in winter and in summer.

Culture and sights

  • Parish Church of St Gallus church in Sankt Gallen: From 1307 there was a chapel at this point. The church was built in 1474, expanded in 1669 with construction of the tower.
  • Kuratienkirche St. Nicholas in Gortipohl: During the renovation of the church in 1959 was discovered in the new roof of the church tower a chronicle from 1854, which provides information about its time.
  • Kuratienkirche hl. Mary Magdalene in Gargellen: Probably from 1411 stood at this point a chapel, and the church was built by a foundation of Peter Lentsch 1615. The structure of the side altar was created in 1674 by David Bertle.

  • The Maisäß Montiel is still one of the few Montafon Maisäßsiedlungen in original condition.

Education

In Sankt Gallen and Gortipohl there is ever a kindergarten and an elementary school ever, and also the tiny hamlet Galgenul still has its own ( einklassige ) elementary school. The main school Inner Montafon the communities of St. Gallen Kirch and gas Churn is located in Gortipohl.

At the site there were 239 pupils in the school year 2007/2008, of which 86 children attend one of three elementary schools and 128 students, the school principal.
