Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella

Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 11,461 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Province of Verona in the Veneto region. The municipality is situated approximately 15 km northwest of Verona and about 8.5 kilometers east of Lake Garda. It belongs to the Comunità montana della Lessinia.

History

The place is as a chapel ( dedicated to Saint George ) in 11-12. Been built over a century Lombard, possibly pre-Roman place of worship. Recognizable were the foundations of this church building remains of Roman altars.

Economy and Transport

Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella situated in an important wine -growing region, in which the correspondent Valpolicella is produced. Also, the Recioto della Valpolicella is produced here. By the Strada Statale 12 community dell'Abetone e del Brenner from Verona leading to Trento. The nearest train station is in the village Domegliara at the burner train from Verona to Innsbruck.
