Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata

Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata ( in the local dialect: Sant'Ilië ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9713 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Teramo in the Abruzzo region. The community is located about 18 kilometers north of Teramo and about 11 kilometers southeast of Ascoli Piceno on the river Vibrata. Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata is immediately adjacent to the province of Ascoli Piceno.

History

The area was already inhabited in ancient Rome. The exact origins are unknown, but a settlement called ILIO for the first centuries after Christ's birth has been demonstrated.

Traffic

Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata lies south of the Raccordo Autostradale Ascoli - Porto d' Ascoli (RA 11). In the church in the former State Road 259 from Alba Adriatica leads coming to Maltignano.
