Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a church in the Cannaregio district in Venice and is known for its characteristic marble cladding.
History
In 1408 Francesco Amadi was a picture of the Madonna and Child with Nicolo di Pietro in order. In the course of time, a deep faith developed at this picture, from which one thought it was miraculous. Soon a housing complex was demolished and the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, built 1481-1489 by Pietro Lombardo and his sons.
Church
Pietro Lombardo and his brother had only a very small and almost rectangular area for construction of the church is available. Therefore, the church consists only of a nave with a barrel vault. This is followed by an almost square apse closes with a dome. Even to the church was outside and the inside decorated with marble in many different colors, which makes the Church a pearl of Cannaregio.
