Sap (village)

Sap ( until 1948 slovak " szap " 1948-1990 " Palkovicovo "; Hungarian szap ) is a municipality in the southwestern Slovakia on the Danube and the border, to Hungary.

History

Sap was in 1289 ( other sources say 1255 ) first mentioned in writing in 1455 was the place to Pressburger rule.

Until 1918, the town belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly created Czechoslovakia, by the First Vienna Award, the municipality from 1938 to 1945 came briefly back to Hungary.

1948, the community was renamed in honor of the poet Slovak Juraj Palkovič in Palkovicovo.

General

The inhabitants are almost exclusively Hungary ( 98%). They live mainly from agriculture and fishing.

In the village there is a church in the classical style of the 18th century. West of the town ends in the course of the Danube power plant Gabčíkovo.
