Sarah Storey

Sarah Storey, born Bailey, DBE (born 26 October 1977 in Manchester ) is a British swimmer and cyclist.

Sports career

Sarah Storey was born with a deformed left hand. In 1992, she started for the first time at the Paralympics as a swimmer. By 2004, she won under her maiden name Sarah Bailey at the Paralympics a total of five gold, eight silver and three bronze medals in various swimming events.

2005 Storey changed due to an infection of the ears of cycling. At the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing she won the individual time trial on the road and in the individual pursuit on the track. 2008 and 2009 it became a British champion ( non - disabled ) in the individual pursuit, qualified in 2010 for the British team ( the non-disabled ) at the Commonwealth Games and finished second in the individual pursuit sixth. Honors

1998 Sarah Storey was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire, promoted to Officer of the Order of the British Empire and in 2013 the Dame Commander in 2009. In 2008 she was also nominated for the election of the Laureus World Sports Award for disabled athletes.

Private

Since 2007 Sarah Storey is married to the cyclist Barney Storey, leading a tandem pilot visually impaired athletes.
