Satoshi Kon

Satoshi Kon (今 敏jap, Kon Satoshi, born October 12, 1963 in Kushiro, Hokkaidō, † 24 August 2010) was a Japanese screenwriter and film director of anime. He was one of the most important animation film artists of Japan.

Biography

Kon studied visual communication design until 1986 at the Musashino College of the Arts. Already during his studies, he tried his hand as a mangaka ( comic artist ), and later as a background artist and screenwriter. By working with Katsuhiro Otomo ( Akira, 1988), his interest shifted more and more towards anime. So he worked on the animated film Patlabor 2 - The Movie (1993 ) Mamoru Oshii of with.

Cons career as an independent writer and director began in 1995 when he wrote the screenplay for the anime short film Magnetic Rose, which was published as part of the short film anthology Memories. In 1997 he realized his first animated film Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress followed in 2001 and 2003, Tokyo Godfathers. In 2004, he devoted himself to the 13 - part television series Paranoia Agent before 2006 to the 63rd International Film Festival in Venice, his fourth animated film Paprika premiere.

On August 24, 2010 Satoshi Kon died of pancreatic cancer.
