The Sauber C23 was used by Sauber for the 2004 season Formula 1 racing cars. The car is the further development of the Sauber C22 used in the previous season.
Driver
After Sauber continued in the 2003 season on the two Germans Nick Heidfeld and Heinz -Harald Frentzen, the driver pairing was replaced for the 2004 season. The Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, left his former team Jordan to join Sauber. The Brazilian Felipe Massa, who had driven for Sauber in 2002 as a regular driver, returned after a year as a test pilot at the Scuderia Ferrari in the cockpit of Sauber.
Technology
The Sauber C23 was the first time equipped with the same engine type as Ferrari Ferrari itself and not as before with the previous year's engine. The engine as Petronas 04A respectively. The car was a direct development of the Sauber C22. For this you took the previous year's cars from Ferrari, the Ferrari F2003 - GA for example. Desingtechnisch, care was taken to make the car lighter and more compact than the previous car.
Season 2004
Unlike the previous season Sauber failed to reach podium in 2004. Highlights were ever a 4th place of Giancarlo Fisichella at the Grand Prix of Canada and Felipe Massa at the Belgian Grand Prix. As in the previous year reached Clean the sixth place in the constructors' championship with 34 points. 22 of which were won by Fisichella, 12 of Massa.
With the end of the 2004 season, the partnership ended with the main sponsors Red Bull, who took the reins of the hitherto little- successful team Jaguar and renamed it to Red Bull Racing.
