Savigny (Haute-Savoie)

Savigny is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Savigny is located at 568 m above sea level. M., about 22 km northwest of the town of Annecy (air line). The scattered settlement municipality extends to the eastern foot of the Montagne de Vuache just above the wide valley of the Fornant, in Genevois.

The area of ​​10.52 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The eastern part of the area lies in the valley of the Fornant (right side of the creek Usses ). From here, the municipality's area extends over the passed with arable and meadow land terrain terrace of Savigny up on the densely wooded, narrow ridge of the Montagne de Vuache, on 1101 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Savigny is achieved. The northern boundary is formed by the broad ridge of the Montagne de Sion.

Neighboring communities of Savigny are Dingy- en- Vuache in the north, Jonzier - Épagny in the east, in the southeast Minzier and Chaumont in the West.

History

The municipality of Savigny has been inhabited since the Neolithic period and during the Roman period. For the first time the place is, however, mentioned in documents only in the early 15th century. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Sabinus, meaning estate of Sabinus.

Attractions

The village church of Savigny was built in the 19th century and includes a dome in Sardinian style.

Population

With 788 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Savigny is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 595 residents counted in Savigny ). Since the early 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Savigny is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in space Annecy and Geneva - Annemasse.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Vulbens to Chaumont. Further road links exist with Jonzier - Épagny and Minzier.
