Waterwheel at the Schaler Aa

The Schaler Aa is a left-side tributary of the great arteries.

It rises in the southeast of the Ankumer height east of the village Merzen. In the upper reaches it is called Weeser Aa. From the border to the district Hopstener Halverde the name changes to Halverder Aa. Before you place it passes through the oil and flour mill Overmeyer. It is one of the last remaining double mills in Westphalia. After flowing through the resort Halverde it winds its way along the Halverder firs direction shell, where it unites with the weighting Holzer Aa. The Schaler here Aa -called river flows in Freren in the Great Aa.

Oil and corn mill Halverde

The grain mill in flow direction left is driven at a Kaplan turbine. The typical mill wheel has been replaced many years ago against this drive. The oil mill is still powered by a waterwheel. The technique is applied fully functional and as a technical museum. The grain mill is currently in the restoration phase. A mill pond is located in the headwater of the mill. About Umfluten flood can be guided laterally past the mill.
