Origin of the name

It is conceivable that Voltlage carries the trunk fole ( Volde, valde ) in itself, the barrier means.

Geographical Location

Voltlage located in the western Bramgau at the transition to Tecklenburger country.

Neighboring communities

Voltlage bordered to the north and Fuerstenau Merzen, to the east by New churches and on the south by distance and to the west by Hopsten (both Kreis Steinfurt, North Rhine -Westphalia).

History

Religion

Voltlage is largely Roman Catholic. The high altar and side altars of the Catholic parish of St. Catherine in 1766 consecrated as submitted by the sculptor Johann Heinrich König ( 1705-1784 ) from Münster ( Westphalia).

Incorporations

On 1 July 1972, the municipalities Höckel and Weese were incorporated.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms consists of three ears of corn, symbolizing the districts Voltlage, Weese and Höckel and a broken wagon wheel, which stands for the name of saint Catherine of Alexandria, the Volt warehouse church.

Structures

The foundation stone for the Catholic Church of St. Catherine in the center of Voltlage was laid in 1752. Until its inauguration went well for three years. Outwardly makes the church a very simple idea, but the interior is one of the most splendid baroque altars of the perimeter. Also located in St. Catherine's Church is a very rare Klausing organ, which strongly but needs renovation.
