Schmidt Sting Pain Index

The Schmidt Sting Pain Index ( literally, " Schmidt Stitch Pain Index " ) is a scale used to classify pain caused by insect bites. The American entomologist Justin Orvel Schmidt, after which the index is named, was stabbed in the course of his working life according to own data of 150 different species of insects from around the world and ordered the pain one depending on the intensity into four stages, with it in the individual stages is again a subdivision in decimal. Insects whose stings caused no pain, were not included in the scale. For comparison, he described some stitches in detail:
