Geographical Location

The market Schoellnach is located in Bavarian Forest nature park at the foot of the 1016 meter high Brotjacklriegel in the territory of the so-called sun forest. Through the community's Kleine Ohe, which belongs to the Danube river basin flows.

History

The village was first mentioned in 865 in a document of the monastery Niederaltaich. Herein king Louis the German confirmed to the monastery possession of Scellinaha. The name is likely a combination of the Old High German " scellan " ( sound, noise) and " aha " (water, stream) represent. In the 12th century it was Schelnahe, in the 13th century Schellenach, early 14th century Schellnachkirchen, then Schellnach and finally Schoellnach.

It came off in 1306 as a prince's knight fief into possession of the Bavarian dukes and had probably from 1311 the status of a Hofmark. Their owners were the Puchberger since 1375 Rüd, then in 1429 the Kafringer, the woman Berger and from 1445 Reutorner. Among the latter, the Ansässigmachung of craftsmen and day laborers were allowed to develop land in the course 1445-1662. 1523 Johannes Aventinus Schölnach drew a map on the first Bavarian. 1635 the parish Schoellnach was built. 1649, 600 people fell victim to the plague.

1719-1774 practiced the Barons of Vieregg dominion over Schoellnach from. Among them Schoellnach received on the occasion of the destruction of the seat flatback with Schoenberg in 1739, an increase of more than 50 goods. On July 31, 1914 was celebrated at the Gasthof zur Post, the opening of the route part Hengersberg - Eging, where Schoellnach got a station on the new railway line to Deggendorf. The telegraphic message from the general mobilization ended the festival.

In 1954, the new parish church was built in 1958 and the new school house. In 1966, the survey of the village followed to market by Bavarian municipal law. 1970-1972 created the secondary school and the secondary and special school.

As early as 1960 Schoellnach entered the circle of the tourist resorts. In 1977 it received state recognition as a resort.

Incorporations

In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, a part of the former municipality Schwanenkirchen was incorporated on 1 April 1971. On January 1, 1972, the municipalities Taiding and Riggerding were incorporated ( up to September 23, 1938 was called Bradl mountain).
