The railway line Bamberg - Hof, part of the Ludwig South - North Railway from Lindau to Hof, touched above the inclined plane the southeast edge of the Schorgast catchment. A little west of Marktschorgast flows to the creek from the north of the well five times as rich in water and almost 11 km long Perlbach, the gewässerkundlich is thus the main strand of the Schorgast River system. In its further course to the west, the Schorgast takes the Weissbach, on par with her Koser and the Lower Steinach.

The Schorgast flows through the towns of Marktschorgast, Wirsberg, Ludwigschorgast and Untersteinach. In Ködnitz - Kauerndorf it tastes good as a small river with an average water flow of 3.74 m³ / s in the greater there only around 13 % White Main.

In the area of the Franconian Forest there are transitions to a parallel structure. The main collection line serves Franconian line along the Franconian Forest - West edge along which move the largest rivers of the system, Schorgast and Lower Steinach, each other.
