Schwarzbach (Wupper)

The Schwarzenbach, also called the upper reaches Mähler Beck, is a 4.035 km long river in the city of Wuppertal District Oberbarmen. He is a right tributary of the river Wupper.

The creek is named for the street Schwarzenbach. The dense urban residential development in the residential district of Wuppertal Oberbarmen - Schwarzenbach on this street is called also " The Black Bach". Also the name in the upper reaches, meals Beck, was the inspiration for a road and a settlement with pool and small garden area.

Etymology

The name probably derives from his black creek bed. Older names are forms such as Schwatte Becke ( Beek, Beck, Becke is a low form of German Bach). In 1614 the hall " auff the black Beck" is mentioned.

Topography

The creek rises to 277 meters above sea level in the district Mollenkotten in the residential district Nächstebreck -west, south of the federal highway 46 directly on their route. The black creek flows in a southeasterly direction in a natural area which consists of fields and meadows and has few individual settlements as Ochsenkamp or Horst. In the local situation Mähler Beck joins the left hand the Junker Beck in the Schwarzenbach, the largest inflow. In a Dole it passes under the site of the swimming pool Mähler Beck, then it flows through the grounds of the small garden in the feasts Beck.

It crosses the main road L58, east in the 18th and 19th centuries an important Kohlenweg between the Ruhr and Barmen, and follows the course of the densely built-up road Schwarzenbach to Wupper. Here, the stream passes through the extensive former factory premises of the company Luhns.

In the valley he passes under the highway 7 and the Berliner Platz and flows under the cable car terminus Oberbarmen relative to the upper Barmer railway station in the Wupper.

History
