Séamus Burke

Séamus Aloysius Bourke ( also: Burke, Irish Séamus de Burca, * June 14, 1893; † January 1, 1967 ) was an Irish politician Sinn Féin Cumann na nGaedheal as well as the Fine Gael.

Biography

After school he studied law and was after graduation worked as a Barrister -at -Law.

In 1919 he began his national political career as a candidate of Sinn Féin with the election of deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ), in which he initially to 1923 represented the interests of the constituency of Tipperary Mid or Tipperary Mid, North and South. He was most recently within the cleaved due to the Anglo -Irish Treaty Sinn Féin, Arthur Griffith to the supporters of this Agreement ( Pro- Treaty ).

In 1923 he was elected to the House of Representatives for the Cumann na nGaedheal, for he represented the constituency of Tipperary until 1933. On October 15, 1923, he was appointed by William Thomas Cosgrave as Minister of Local Government and Public Health, not one as such but to the Executive Council of the Irish Free State.

Subsequently, he was on June 24, 1927 Parliamentary Secretary of the Treasury, and held this position except for brief interruptions until 9 March 1932.

Between 1933 and 1938 he worked for the Fine Gael deputy of the lower house and in turn represented the constituency of Tipperary. At the general election in 1938, he was defeated and retreated to his retirement from the Dáil and a renewed defeat at the polls in 1943 out of politics.
