Geography

Geographical location

The state-approved climatic health resort Seebach is located in the northern Black Forest in the upper Achertal. The Acher arises on the boundary of Seebach. The municipal area extends from an altitude of 400 meters to the top of the Hornisgrinde in 1164 meters above sea level. More than 75 percent of the municipal area is covered with forest.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Sasbachwalden, to the east by Baiersbronn in the district of Freudenstadt, on the south by Ottenhoefen and to the west by Kappelrodeck.

A community structure in the legal sense does not exist. History

The upper Achertal was probably inhabited in the 12th century, a few farms have been documented since the 13th century. Due to the sometimes extremely steep slopes agriculture was only in the narrow Achertal and several side valleys possible. So Seebach has preserved as scattered settlements until the 20th century into his character. To a politically independent commune, the place was only in the year 1818.

Seebach long belonged to the district of Bühl, with its southern part it came to the new Ortenaukreis 1973.

Religions

Seebach, which is mainly dominated Roman Catholic belonged formerly to the parish in Ottenhoefen. 1924 a church was consecrated in 1932 and Seebach was run by churches as a separate parish.
