Șeica Mică

SEICA Mica ( Kleinschelken German, Hungarian Kisselyk ) is a town in Romanian Transylvania. It belongs to the district of Sibiu and has about 1700 inhabitants.

Location

SEICA Mica located 23 kilometers west of Medias and can be reached by car only via a branch of the road Medias - Blaj. The nearest railway station located north of the railway line Teiuş - Braşov and the 4 km southeast of SEICA Mica located SEICA Mare on the railway line Sibiu Copşa Mica.

History

The place was first mentioned in documents as Kleinschelken 1318. There are, however, numerous legacies from the Iron Age, the Dacians and the Romans. Kleinschelken as the entire territory of Transylvania inhabited since the mid-12th century by German colonists who had been settled on the so-called King bottom of the Hungarian King Geza II. The descendants of these immigrants retained their Moselle Franconian the related dialect is up to the present. Since 1414 the school is documented. 1494 was Kleinschelken market town. 1530, the city was sacked in connection with the Habsburg- Turkish wars. 1553 the Reformation was introduced in 1576 was the place the blood jurisdiction granted by Vojvoden Transylvania. 1661 Kleinschelken scene of a Transylvanian Diet. 1705, there was looting by imperial troops. As a result of the Second World War, much of the ethnic German inhabitants left the place to live in Germany. One last big wave of return migration took place after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the political changes in Romania.

SEICA Mica today

Due to the migration of the Transylvanian Saxons today Romanians live predominantly in SEICA Mica. Mayor of the city is Hans Martin Blesch (PD - L); the council consists of 11 members (PD -L 5, 4 PSD, PNL 1, Partidul Verde 1).

Some of the emigrants from the place in Germany is organized in the so-called hometown community ( HOG) Kleinschelken.

Attractions

Most important building in the village is the fortified church, a heavily fortified evangelical church with three naves basilica and massive bell tower ( built in the 15th century).
