Seigneux

Seigneux until the merger was to Valbroye on July 1, 2011, a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Seigneux is located on 570 m above sea level. M., 12 km south-southwest of the district main town Payerne ( straight line ). The village street line extends on a terrace on the eastern flank of the Broye, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.7 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion of the hill country between the middle and the Broyetal Glânetal. Neighboring communities of Seigneux were Henniez, Cerniaz, Villars- Bramard, Dompierre, Curtilles and Lucens the canton of Vaud and of Villeneuve in the Canton of Fribourg.

Population

With 279 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Seigneux was one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 94.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 2.2 % and 1.8 % portugiesischsprachig in German (as of 2000). The population of Seigneux amounted in 1900 to 284 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1960 due to strong migration to 177 people, a significant population increase has been recorded again since then.

Economy

Seigneux until the 20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Today, the crop and livestock farming have only a minor role in the occupational structure of the population. Since the 18th century there was a sawmill in the valley of the Ruisseau de Seigneux. At the hamlet of Treize -Cantons on the main road Payerne - Moudon an industrial estate developed in the last decades with an engineering company. Also a part of the buildings of Sources Minérales Henniez SA is located in the municipality.

Traffic

Seigneux traffic is technically quite well developed. It is about 1 km away from the relatively busy main road 1 from Lausanne to Bern via Payerne, which was the main axis of Bern in Switzerland, the West before the highway construction. Seigneux itself is not connected to the public transport. In the valley below the village, however, is the stop Henniez of which was inaugurated on August 25, 1876 line Payerne -Moudon.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1221 under the name Sinius. Later, the names Villa Siniez versus Suprapetram ( 1316 ), Sinuez and Signuouz, Signiodo ( 1453), Seigneus (1668 ) and Seignoux (1861 ) published. The name goes back to the Roman family names Sinius.

Since the Middle Ages Seigneux belonged to the bishop of Lausanne, where it was under the jurisdiction of the castellan of Lucens. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Seigneux belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Payerne.

Attractions

In the center of Seigneux some characteristic farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
