Selwyn Snowfields

Selwyn Snowfields is a small ski resort in the northern Snowy Mountains in Kosciuszko National Park in New South Wales, Australia. The ski area is located far from Adaminaby, Kiandra and Cabramurra, the highest town in Australia.

Skiing

Skiing in Australia began in Kiandra in the year 1861. 1966 the first ski lift was built and since 2009 is a dreisitziger chair and another ten -bars available. Selwyn Snowfield is the northernmost ski area at an altitude between 1492-1614 meters. The longest run of 800 meters is the Long Arm Run. The ski area has 45 km of marked trails. The ski area is suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The slope Racecourse Run requires more advanced riding.

The Skiseason lasts from June to September. At low snowfall snow machines are used. The snowfall can be quite considerable. In the Snowy Mountains Cooma in the area around a snow depth of 360 cm was measured for example in 1981.
