Semnan Province

Semnan (Persian سمنان ) is one of the 31 provinces in Iran. She has the same name Semnan city to the capital.

In the province of 589 742 people ( 2006 census ). The area of ​​the province covers 97 491 square kilometers. The population density is 6 people per square kilometer.

Geography

The only sparsely populated province of Semnan is located in the northern part of Iran. It is bordered on the north by the provinces of Golestan, Mazandaran and North Khorasan, on the west by the provinces of Tehran and Qom, on the south by the provinces of Esfahan and Yazd, and on the east by the province of Razavi Khorasan.

History

Bistam ( Bastam at Shahrud ) is in the year 803 birthplace of Bayazid Bistami, the later Persian Muslim mystics of Sufism.
