Senna artemisioides subsp. quadrifolia

Senna artemisioides is an Australian plant of the legume family ( Fabaceae ). In her home country she is called Silver Cassia or Feathery Cassia, although in English " Cassia " otherwise referred to the larger growing representatives of Cassieae. The plant is endemic to Australia, where they can be found in all states and territories except Victoria.

Artemisioides Senna is a shrub that can only be up to 3 meters high. The pinnate leaves are divided into 1-8 leaflets. The shrub brings in winter and spring forth an abundance of yellow flowers, which can be large about 1.5 cm in diameter. This results in 2 to 7 cm long flat green pods that are dark brown in the tire.

The species adapts to a wide range of climatic conditions, although it is particularly sensitive to frost when young. It prefers dry, well-drained sites with full sun. As an ornamental plant, it is easy to grow from seed, which must be soaked in boiling water first, so that they germinate.

Taxonomy and systematics

The species was first described in 1825 by Charles Gaudichaud -Beaupré, classified based on the work of Augustin Pyramus de Candolle, and in the genus Cassia. She was then assigned to the genus Senna. But for a long time it was mistakenly known as " Cassia Eremophila ". The name Cassia eremophila has already been previously assigned by Julius Rudolph Theodor Vogel in a different way.

A large number of formerly independent species are provisionally included as subspecies of S. artemisioides:

  • Subsp. alicia Randell
  • Subsp. artemisioides
  • Subsp. filifolia Randell
  • Subsp. helmsii ( Symon ) Randell - Blunt -leaved Cassia
  • Subsp. oligophylla ( F.Muell. ) Randell - Blunt -leaved Cassia
  • Subsp. petiolaris Randell - Woody Cassia
  • Subsp. quadrifolia Randell ( Senna quadrifolia Burm is a synonym for Chamaecrista absus )
  • Subsp. sturtii ( R. Br ) Randell - Sturt 's cassia
  • Subsp. zygophylla ( Benth. ) Randell

Some hybridogene subspecies were also named:

  • Nothosubsp. × artemisioides
  • Subsp. × coriacea ( Benth. ) Randell
  • Nothosubsp. × coriacea ( Benth. ) Randell
  • ( Cassia coriacea Benth. 's A synonym for Chamaecrista coriacea )
  • Nothosubsp. × sturtii ( R. Br ) Randell

In addition, there are obviously at least two undescribed taxa:

  • Senna artemisioides " James Range ( PLLatz 18528 ) "
  • Senna artemisioides " Kuyunba ( B.Pitts 113) "

Overall Senna artemisioides can perhaps best be regarded as Formtaxon whose phylogenetic diversity is still largely unknown.
