Sennar (state)

Sennar (Arabic سنار, DMG Sennar ), alternative spelling Sennar or Sinnar, is a state in the southeast of the Sudan, which borders Ethiopia.

It has an area of 37,844 km ², a population of 1,374,405 inhabitants ( 2010 calculation ) and its capital is the city of Sennar.

Through the Sennar Dam, which impounds the Blue Nile, in the state of an extensive irrigation field crops is to be found.

History

From 1919 to 1991, the territory of today's state of Sennar belonged to the province of al - Nil - azraq.
