Sens

Sens [ SAS ] is a French town with 25 146 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Yonne department and lies on the eponymous river Yonne. The city of Sens is located only 78 kilometers from Corbeil -Essonnes and the Paris suburbs away. The distance to the Burgundian town of Auxerre is 56 kilometers.

History

As Agedincum Sens was the capital of the Gallic senones. Some researchers want to equate it with Senonae. According to legend, the saint Columba of Sens was here beheaded because they refused as a Christian to marry the son of the Roman Emperor Aurelian.

The Abbey of Saint -Pierre -le- Vif was founded at the beginning of the 6th century by Theudechild ( † before 579 ), the daughter of the Frankish king Theodoric I, who was also buried here.
