Senserbach

The Senserbach ( Dutch: Selzerbeek or Sinselbeek, Limburg: Selzerbaek or Sinselbaach ) extends over approximately 13 kilometers from its source to its mouth near Aachen at Mechelen in the Göhl ( Dutch: Geul ).

Geography

The Senserbach rises in Germany below the border triangle Germany -Belgium- Netherlands on the Vaalserberg and flows through Vaalserquartier.

From Vaals about Lemiers to Mamelis the Senserbach forms the natural border between the Netherlands and Germany and is also Grenzbach called. At the time of existence of the Aachener Reich, this section was also part of the outer ring of the Aachen Landgraben. In this area it bring in an additional small streams: the Orsbacher Pütz, the Zieversbach at Holset, the Herman Creek in Lemiers and Harleserbach at Harles.

Behind the Mamelis Senserbach flows through the Netherlands, parallel to the Provinciale Weg 278 through the towns Nijswiller, Wahlwiller and Partij until he ( in Mechelen ) opens in Wittem in the Göhl, which in turn is a direct tributary of the Meuse.

Thus, the Senserbachs about 7.2 km in Germany or on the boundary as well as other 6.2 km runs purely in the Netherlands.

History

The area Vaals - Lemiers - Vijlen belongs since 1661 to the Netherlands. Since then, the Senserbach is the old frontier.

In the stream live bullheads and in some places even brown trout.

Water quality

According to studies of MUNLV NRW exposure to pesticides, metals and other pollutants in Senserbach low or below the detection limit (2008).

Attractions and buildings

On Senserbach are several water mills: The Lemierser mill in Mamelis the Schoeërmolen, as well as in Wittem the mill of the monastery and the Wittemermolen.
