Šentrupert ( German: Sankt Ruprecht ) is a municipality in the Lower Carniola region of Slovenia.

Location and population

In the overall community consisting of 25 villages and hamlets in 2419 people. The main town Šentrupert alone has 348 inhabitants. The municipality is located north-west of Novo mesto.

History

Settled was the area around Šentrupert since early times, as shown by archaeological excavations. Found traces of the Hallstatt period. The Gothic Church of St. Rupert in Šentrupert was built around the year 1450. Due to their thickness and aesthetic perfection, it is one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Slovenia.

On 14 June 2006, Šentrupert separated from the municipality Trebnje and has since formed its own municipality.
