Sergio Javier Goycochea ( born October 17, 1963 in Buenos Aires ) is a sports journalist and a former Argentine footballer.

He was Argentine goalkeeper at the World Cup in Italy in 1990. Actually, he was mitgereist only as a goalkeeper No. 2 to Italy, but was preferred after the injury of the root goalkeeper Nery Pumpido coach Carlos Bilardo of as a replacement for this and played an outstanding World Cup.

In general, he was feared as a penalty killer by the opponents. Proof of this, he joined the 1990 World Cup at the quarter-final against Yugoslavia and in the semifinal against Italy. Both games decided Argentina on penalties for itself, with Goycochea parried each two penalties of the opponents. In the World Cup final in 1990 against Germany, he could, but not fend off the winning penalty against Andreas Brehme, who led the Germans to the world title. Due to its not easy to pronounce, Basque surname Goycochea was by the fans his home club River Plate only " El Vasco ", the Basque called.
