Serranía de Ronda

The Comarca Serranía de Ronda is one of six Comarcas in the province of Málaga. It was, like all Comarcas in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, furnished with effect from 28 March 2003. However, the comarca has only the function of planning regions for tourism and the development of sports facilities.

The Serrania de Ronda is a mountainous, forested and little tourist developed area.

It lies between the cities of Malaga and Cadiz to the Cordilleras Béticas, a parallel to the Mediterranean coast mountain range. The area of ​​the Serrania de Ronda covers an area of ​​1,300 km ². Places in the Serranía de Ronda include Benaojan, Setenil, Jimena de la Frontera, Arriate, Atajate, Cortes de la Frontera, Algatocin, Alcalá del Valle, Serrato, El Burgo, Yunquera, Villaluenga del Rosario, Jimena de Libar, Jubrique, Cartajima Igualeja, Jubrique, Gaucin and Montejaque. In the north the soil is interspersed with limestone, which is optimal for olive cultivation. In the south the soil is clayey.

Located in the west of the province Comarca comprises 23 municipalities with 58 398 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013), or about 3.5% of the province 's population.
