Sessenheim

Sessenheim is located a commune with 2177 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region, about 40 km northeast of Strasbourg. She is a member of the Communauté de communes Rhin -Moder. The southernmost part of the road is called settlement Dengolsheim and is passed by the departmental road D468.

The place especially by Goethe and his love for Friederike Brion Sessenheimer pastor's daughter ( Sesenheimer songs ), whereby the community was to become the destination of numerous Goethe- worshipers became known.

Name

The place is called in German as in French " Sessenheim "; the spread by Goethe spelling " Sesenheim " is also widely used.

Because of the above -mentioned recognition of the place in Strasbourg the usual place name Sähsene today in Alsace usually used, although the inhabitants of their city call themselves Sähsem.

Attractions

In today's parsonage is a small museum is housed in which some memorabilia are displayed Friederike and her father. The original residential buildings are not preserved. Only the Goethe- barn can still be visited. Furthermore recalls a Goethe memorial to the famous couple. This like a small ancient temple acting former guardhouse houses since 1961 in two rooms of various documents and images.

In addition to Goethe and Friederike Brion, the painter Henri Loux was (1873 - 1907), whose paintings still adorn the traditional Alsatian dishes, associated with the place Sessenheim. He spent his childhood there.

Georg Atzel (* 1845) was Member of Parliament and Mayor of Sessenheim.
