Seven Years in Tibet (1956 film)

The film Seven Years in Tibet from 1956 is a documentary film based on the eponymous autobiographical book by Heinrich Harrer.

Action

Seven Years in Tibet tells the story of the Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer, who flees at the beginning of the Second World War from a British internment camp in India, over the Himalayas to Tibet. There he meets the young 14th Dalai Lama know and it develops a friendly relationship between the two. Some years later, Harrer must however again take flight, as invaded due to the Tibet-China conflict, the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Tibet.

Background

The content of the film refers to the experiences of Heinrich Harrer, published in his 1952 book " Seven Years in Tibet ". In this Harrer describes his time with Peter Aufschnaiter in Tibet and his acquaintance with the 14th Dalai Lama. The film uses some 16mm color film material Heinrich Harrer, which he had taken in the years 1939-1940 in Tibet. Also were some scenes of the film by Heinrich Harrer and Peter Aufschnaiter, head of the organized by the German Himalayan Foundation reconnaissance expedition to Nanga Parbat in 1939, even adjusted.
