Sherman Miles

Sherman Miles ( born December 5, 1882 in Washington, DC, USA, † 1966 in Boston, USA) was an American general and politician ( Republican).

Life

Sherman Miles was born as the son of Lieutenant General Nelson Appleton and Mary Sherman Miles. He attended the Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated in 1905. He married on November 24, 1909 Yulee Noble, they got two children later.

In 1919, he led the "Miles " mission, should clarify the territorial disputes in the Carinthian defensive struggle (Marburg 's Bloody Sunday ). In the 1920s, Miles attended the Army War College and the Command and General Staff School. Miles was promoted to West Point officer, first in the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was always conveyed, in 1942, he was eventually promoted to Major General. In the period 1912-1940 he was in the cavalry, coastal and field artillery in action, some times referred to the General Staff and as a military attaché in Europe. It was during the attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 Chief of Army Intelligence.

From 1947 to 1952 he sat for the Republican Party in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts.

He died in Boston on October 12, 1966 and was interred in the family mausoleum of Miles on the Arlington National Cemetery.
