Life

Ralph grew up in Mandeville and Long Iceland, the daughter of an African American and a Jamaican. In 1973 she was elected Miss Black Teen-age New York. At the age of 19 years, Ralph was the youngest woman who had until then received a degree from Rutgers University. In the same year she was voted as one of the top ten students in the United States of Glamour magazine. Initially Sheryl wanted to be a doctor, but decided for the arts. Ralph is married to Pennsylvania Senator Vincent Hughes. She has a son and a daughter. In June 2000, she sued the National Enquirer to one million dollars because of an article which was published about her and her husband.

Career

Ralph began her career as a stage actress, in which she was nominated for a 1982 Tony Award as Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Deena Jones in Dreamgirls. In 1984, Sheryl Lee Ralph published reached their debut album In the Evening, whose eponymous single # 6 on the Billboard charts. In 1988, she was the synchronous voice of Rita in the Disney movie Oliver & Company production. Her first starring role was as Denzel Washington's wife in The Mighty Quinn. In 1992, she had another major role as Mistress in the eponymous film starring Robert De Niro '. Other roles in the 1990s, she starred in television series such as The Flintstones, Deterrence and Unconditional Love.

On television, she is known for her roles as Etienne Toussaint - Bouvier on Designing Women, as Dee Mitchell at Moesha, as well as a comic villain Cheetah in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Ralph held Divas Simply Singing, to raise funds for AIDS. In Barber Shop - The series she played the popular Trans wife Claire. In 2006, she completed a guest appearance on ER. In 2008, she was a supporting role in the hit TV series Hannah Montana represented (including with Miley Cyrus). Currently, she is active in the Broadway musical The First Wives Club as Elyse.
