Shirley Douglas

Shirley Jean Douglas, OC ( born April 2, 1934 in Weyburn ) is a Canadian actress.

Private life

Shirley Douglas is the daughter of Tommy Douglas, a former prime minister of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, and Irma Dempsey. From a first marriage went forth a son. From 1966 to 1970 she was married to Donald Sutherland in second marriage. From this relationship, two children, the twins Kiefer and Rachel Sutherland went out.

Career

Douglas was acting at the age of 16 years and first attended the Banff School of Fine Arts and from 1950 to 1952 the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After she obtained her degree, she starred in British theater productions and performed sporadically on television. In 1957 she returned to Canada. In 1962, she was cast in a supporting role in Stanley Kubrick's Lolita.
