Shirley Knight

Shirley Enola Knight ( born July 5, 1936 in Goessel, Kansas ) is an American actress.

Life and achievements

Knight debuted as an actress at the end of the 1950s. For her role in the movie The Dark at the Top of the Stairs (1960 ) she was nominated for film awards Oscar and Golden Globe Award. For her supporting role in the film Sweet Bird of Youth, she was again nominated for an Oscar. In the film drama The Rain People (1969 ) by Francis Ford Coppola, she played opposite James Caan one of the main roles.

In the film drama Endless Love (1981 ) by Franco Zeffirelli, she played Ann Butterfield, mother of Jade Butterfield, who played Brooke Shields. For this role, Knight was nominated for the Golden Raspberry. For her role in the television film under indictment - The McMartin case (1995 ), she won the Golden Globe and Emmy Award. In the film she played Divine Secrets of the Ya- Ya Sisterhood (2002) Necie Rose Kelleher, a friend of the mother of Sidda Lee Walker, who played Sandra Bullock.

Knight also appeared in several episodes of various television series; for her role of Agnes Cantwell in the sequence Largemouth Bass series NYPD Blue, she won an Emmy Award in 1995. For her role in the series Law & Order in 1992, she was nominated for an Emmy Award.

In 1976, Knight won for her role in the play Kennedy 's Children Tony Award. In 1997 she was nominated for the role in the play The Young Man from Atlanta for a Tony Award.

At the beginning of the second season of the American television series Desperate Housewives, she played the grieving mother of Rex Van de Kamp, in which it is hated her daughter Bree on my nerves. For these side role she was nominated for the 2006 Emmy Award for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. For the fourth season of Desperate Housewives, she returned again back on the set.

Knight in the years 1959-1969 was married to Eugene Persson, in the years 1969 to 1998, John Hopkins. She has one daughter from each of the marriages that born in 1965, Kaitlin Hopkins is also an actress.
